McMaster's Steel Coating Laboratory is built around the galvanizing simulator from Iwatani-Surtec which has significant new
functional capabilities for reproducing industrial CGL process conditions, including
direct fired designs, zinc bath agitation technology, dross/oxide control on the pot
surface and rapid quenching of coating microstructure at critical stages in the process.
The laboratory also operates a Meniscocraph which is used to asses wetting of steel surfaces by molten metal, donated by Dofasco Inc. in 2004.
